Dear friends,
Please find attached the payment sent to the school (effective next Monday) to support the school lunch program during the month of August. The donation is still 800 euros because only two classes can attend lessons due to COVID-19. However, we’re staying open so that the other children know that as soon as they return to school, their meals will be guaranteed. Yet another good reason to go back to school!

The school in Twabuka and the cafeteria are still operating, and even though things are complicated (right now in Zambia, cases are on the rise, particularly in the north-central region), it’s nice to see these photos of the children in the two classes authorized to attend school—they’re always cheerful and smiling. We hope that the school cafeteria—which, thanks to your help, continues to operate as usual—will encourage the children to return to school when it becomes possible…

One more reason to keep working hard!!! Thank you, as always, for your generosity.

Hi!!
Here is the payment slip for 800 euros to support the Twabuka school cafeteria for the next 30 days.

This difficult time for everyone has also slowed down life at the school in Twabuka. Since last April, the Zambian government has ordered schools to close, and classes resumed only in early June—but only for the grades taking exams: at our school, this means that only two grades (seventh and ninth) are attending regular classes.

With the partial resumption of classes, in agreement with the Principal and our American friends who continue to fund 50% of the project, we have decided to cover the cost of the school lunch program for the two classes that are able to attend (and, of course, for their teachers) by sending two installments of donations for June and July, each amounting to 800 euros.

Unfortunately, for the first time since 2012, we won’t be able to make our annual visit to the school this year; however, most importantly, we’re able to keep the school cafeteria open, and it continues to operate without interruption: thanks to all of you, our efforts to ensure these students have the dignity of a daily meal haven’t stopped!

Dear Friends,
here is a brief update:
SCHOOL: The school in Twabuka is finally set to reopen. Starting June 1, 7th and 9th graders (who are the students taking the exams) will return to class. With the partial resumption of classes, the school cafeteria service will also resume; we sent our contribution for this service a few days ago (reduced this time to 800 euros in line with the reduced number of students and staff— here is the payment receipt).

COVID-19 in ZAMBIA: As of now, there are 1,057 confirmed cases of coronavirus in Zambia, with seven confirmed deaths. A few days ago, the first cases were reported in Livingstone. We hope the numbers stay low so that school can soon resume at full capacity. In that case, of course, we will resume sending the full contribution of 2,400 euros.

Please find attached a copy of this month’s payment of 2,400 euros that we sent to the school to cover the next 30 days of cafeteria service: half of the amount is paid by our friends in the U.S., and the other half by us here in Italy. This month, our “Italian” share of 1,200 is fully covered by a donation from two friends (thank you!!!)
